How do I know if I’m a candidate for an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty)? For the upper eyelids, if you can pinch up some extra skin and still be able to close your eye, or if your eyelid skin is folded-over and nearly touching your eyelashes, you are likely a candidate for an upper lid blepharoplasty. If you have “bags” under your eyes, you may be a candidate for lower lid blepharoplasty.
Will it affect my vision? In the first few days after surgery, your vision may be slightly blurry, due to swelling or due to the lubricating ointments that are used. Permanent visual changes are very rare.
I’ve had LASIK. Can I have a blepharoplasty? Yes, however, the eye is more prone to dryness after LASIK. Artificial tears may be required for a longer period of time postoperatively.
My eye doctor says I have a dry eye. Can I have a blepharoplasty? Yes, under certain circumstances. We would want to discuss the specifics of your situation with your eye doctor.
When can I go back to work? For most people, the recovery from an upper lid blepharoplasty is quick – about 4-6 days. It takes a little longer for the lower lids, as swelling may be more prominent.
Will it lift my eyebrows? No. People with low eyebrow position should have a different surgery – called a forehead lift.
Will it fix my crow’s feet? No. The incisions do not extend that far to the side, so there is no effect on the skin of the temple area with a blepharoplasty. Botox , chemical peels, or forehead lift surgeries should be considered if there are concerns about this area.
